Goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov said "we became angry with ourselves and pushed forward" after his FC Shakhtar Donetsk side thrashed SC Tavriya Simferopol 7-1 in the Ukrainian Super Cup.
The champions took the Ukrainian Cup winners apart in Zaporizhia, with Olexandr Gladkiy putting them ahead with a fine second-minute strike. Maxym Feschuk levelled just after the half-hour mark, with Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov explaining: "After going ahead so fast, we tailed off a bit. It was really hot, we lost the initiative and let them equalise. That was the turning point as we became angry with ourselves and pushed forward."
Jadson volleyed Shakhtar ahead before the break, with further strikes from Gladkiy, Willian, Luiz Adriano (2) and Răzvan Raţ putting the game well beyond Tavriya. "I really can't single out anyone after such a match," said coach Mircea Lucescu. "The whole team was just great." Shakhtar will play in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage; Tavriya's UEFA Europa League campaign begins in the play-off round.
