A goal from Andriy Yarmolenko in the fourth minute proved enough for Dynamo Kyiv to clinch a narrow 1-0 victory over FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih at the Metalurh stadium on Sunday. The 20-year-old striker grabbed the match-winning goal after a smart combination of passes between him, Miloš Ninković and Artem Milevskyy.

Adamant to keep the lead, the White-Blues maintained the tempo of their play throughout the game. They also had some good chances to increase their advantage, particularly in the first half, but the scoreline remained unchanged. Kryvbas finished the match with ten men after a first-half substitute Valeriy Kutsenko was shown a second yellow card in the 79th minute.

Meanwhile, on August 29 Shakhtar celebrated its professional holiday with a confident victory over Illichivets from Mariupol. The pitmen had a dozen of brilliant of goal-scoring opportunities. However, resilient visitors made all they could to make the opponents keep a clean sheet. But Mirca Lucescu’s charges broke the deadlock on 61 minutes. Willian was the real hero of the moment after his lashing the ball into the left corner from a 20 meters range.

FC Metalist were 2:0 victors at FC Metalurh Z with Marco Devic and Xavier finding their names on the score sheet. Sunday's action supplied the most goals in a single game as FC Zoria won 5-3 SC Tavriya.

Earlier on Saturday a Kyiv derby brought aplenty of entertainment as FC Arsenal saw off FC Obolon with the only goal of the match from FC Dynamo’s former forward Maksym Shatskikh on 32 minutes. On the opening-day of the 8 round FC Vorskla provided a goalless stalemate at promoted FC Sevastopol.
