On Sunday, February 28, Shakhtar beat Vorskla within the framework of the 18th round of the Ukrainian Premier League and didn’t let Dynamo to increase their advantage. Of course, the footballers of Mircea Lucescu were disappointed with their failure in the Europa League.
But the tournament situation didn’t leave Shakhtar time to worry. From the other hand Vorskla, who won last season’s Ukrainian Cup in a final duel with Donetsk team, also needed points. The footballers of Mykola Pavlov wanted to use the moral conditions of Shakhtar and get a victory. But they didn’y managed to do it. Everything was decided after the only goal of Jadson, who didn’t leave any chances to opponent’s goalkeeper from a penalty kick.
In another match, which was played on Saturday, Dynamo Kyiv resumed their 2009/2010 Ukrainian championship campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against FC Kryvbas at the Lobanovskyi Dynamo stadium. Upwards of ten thousand supporters filled the stadium to cheer for their favourite club against bottom-side from Kryvyi Rih. However, the match proved to be quite nervous.
Ognjen Vukojević scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half after Andrii Shevchenko's free kick deflected off the defensive wall and fell into the pass of the Croatian midfielder. And, although Kryvbas had chances to equalise in the final minutes, Valerii Gazzaiev's men held the lead till the end.
