Ukraine will face Turkey in a match for the third place after being edged out by Iran in the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Memorial semi-final.
The blue-yellows fell behind on 13 minutes before their situation has turned worse at the half hour when Iran hit twice in four minutes. Yet, Ukrainians tried to gear up and were rewarded with a goal before the break − FC Karpaty Lviv halfback Volodymyr Gudyma found his name on the scoresheet. Pavlo Yakovenko’s charges left in a more advantageous position with five minutes from the first time following a dismissal of Iran’s player for the second booking. Ukraine side netted their second thanks to FC Arsenal Kyiv halfback Andriy Bogdanov’s 58th- minute strike. But the final word belonged to Iran who sealed a 4-2 win.
The blue-yellows will be vying for the bronze at Borodianka on Wednesday, 11 August, against Turkey who succumbed to Russia 1-0. The kick off time is 18:00. An hour later Russia and Iran will meet in the final at FC Dynamo’s Valeriy Lobanovskiy stadium.
