Free-scoring Ukraine move on up
28.10.2008, 16:15 | Uefa.com

Ukraine scored seven without reply in the first half of their decider, but by reducing the deficit after the break, Hungary have put themselves in contention to go through as one of the six runners-up with the best record against the sides first and third in their group; the lineup will be confirmed this week.

Sipos strikes five
Hungary led the way after Matchday 1 after defeating hosts Moldova 13-0. After Evelin Horváth and Dorottya Dénes broke the deadlock in the opening 20 minutes, Lilla Sipos went on to score five goals, Nikolett Marsai contributed two more and Krisztina Szlovák, Zsófia Tell, Alexandra Pas and substitute Kinga Halászi also added to the tally. Ukraine beat Lithuania 4-0 as Oksana Yakovyshyn scored twice before the interval and Darya Vorontsova contributed two more after it.

Duo win again
Two days later Hungary maintained first place with a 6-0 win against Lithuania. Szandra Váradi and Mercédesz Jakus claimed first-half goals, followed in the second period by a Marsai penalty and Horváth, Szlovák and Halászi strikes. Ukraine thrashed Moldova 9-0; Yakovyshyn completed a first-half hat-trick with a 40th-minute penalty, Liana Bochkovska and Olena Tyelna also netted before half-time, and Svitlana Budnik and substitute Olha Zubchyk each struck twice after the break.

Yakovyshyn feat
That Ukraine goalscoring form continued today against Hungary. Yakovyshyn took her mini-tournament tally to a competition high nine goals with four before the recess, and Darya Vorontsova with two and Maryana Ivanyshyn also scored in the first period. Hungary regrouped in the second half and Marsai's goal ten minutes from time made the final score 7-1. Lithuania defeated Moldova 3-0 for third place.
