On Sunday, August 23, Ukraine Women’s team was beat by Denmark in the second match of the final EURO 2009 tournament, which takes place in Finland. Having got none points in two matches the footballers of Anatoliy Kutsev lost their chances to get into a quarter-final.
Self-confidence of Ukrainians
From the very beginning of the match the players of Anatoliy Kutsev acted more aggressively than their opponents. There was a great pressing from their side and they were not afraid to use dribbling. The danger near the goal of Nadiya Baranova appeared mostly after the corners. Before the middle of the first half of the game the opponents exchanged half-moments and on the 22nd minute the defense of Ukrainians fractured. As a result at once two Danes appeared face to face with the goalkeeper, but they didn’t manage to score.
Winner from Pape
The second mistake of ‘blue-yellows’ near their penalty area let the team of Heiner-Møller to open the score after the break. The Ukrainians didn’t lose their heads and quite quickly drew level through Daryna Apanaschenko. After this the game became nervous as both of the opponents understood that the only mistake would cancel their hopes to get into play-off. Ukrainians tried to score, but Fortune was at the Danes side this evening. On the 87th minute Maiken Pape got a ball after a ricochet and scored a winner.
