U-18: the third place at Granatkin Memorial
14.01.2008, 10:45 | Kostyantyn Patkevych, FFU

On Sunday, January 13, youth team of Ukraine (U-18) proved its 4:1 supremacy over Belgians in the match for the third place in Granatkin Memorial competition, which ended in Saint-Petersburg. Russian team established on the first position having overcome Belarusian opponents in the final − 3:0.

Goals exchange
The injury of Pavlo Hryschenko made the mentor of the «blue-yellows» Yuriy Morozov introduce some amends to the tactical scheme at the beginning of the match. However, this step virtually didn’t affect the correlation of forces on the pitch − the battle was equal. Ukrainians opened the score on the 32nd minute when Dmytro Korkishko realized a penalty kick awarded for violent conduct towards Vitaliy Kaverin. In the long run, the Belgians managed to equal the score line before the break.

Crucial five-minute lap
Our lads started the second half with a pressing. Consequently, the outcome of the match was set in a quarter of an hour. Within five minutes the goal of the «red devils» missed three shots in a row! First, Denis Harmash performed a long-distance shot, then Kaverin was awarded for his perseverance, and finally the victory was sealed by Korkisko.

Individual awards
A little bit later Dmytro Vladov was sent off for the second warning. However, the Belgians failed to dominate with their majority. So, Ukraine payed its due for the defeat in group round − 0:1. Apart from the third place prize Morozov’s guys received two individual trophies. Vyacheslav Bazylevych was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament, and Dmytro Korkishko was named its most useful player.
