Wonders do not exist

On Sunday, January 10, Ukraine Under-18 team were beat in the final of the XXII Valentyn Granatkin Memorial, which ended in Saint-Petersburg. The hosts managed to score an opener in the middle of the first half of the match, and two goals more were scored by Russians after the break. “I congratulate Russia with a victory. It’s a pity, but wonders do not exist. During four matches we could use only 12-13 footballers, and it was very difficult”, Ukraine team coach Oleksandr Golovko mentioned at the after-match press-conference. Ukrainians participated in the tournament without some key players because of injuries.

Waiting for qualification

It is the third triumph in a row for Russian team at their home Memorial. Ukrainians won bronze medals in two previous tournaments. We should remind that the footballers of Oleksandr Golovko are preparing for participating in 2011 European Under-19 Championship’s qualification, which will start in autumn. It’s interesting that Russians will be the opponents of Ukrainian team in the qualification besides Sweden and Denmark.
