13 qualifying round sections
In the 2008/09 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round 52 sides are to begin their quest for seven places in next May's finals in Germany. Among the mini-tournaments, played throughout the autumn, is a Group 13 meeting between holders Spain and England, who were matched in the 2007 final. Two of the teams who competed in last season's finals in Turkey, runners-up France and Scotland, are both in Group 11. The top two in each of the 13 qualifying round sections, plus the two third-placed sides with the best record against the leading pair in their group, will progress to the Elite round, which will be drawn on 4 December and played in the spring of 2009. The winners of the seven Elite round sections will join hosts Germany in the final tournament from 6-18 May.
