U-17: Romanians crashed in Kyiv
10.09.2008, 19:45 | FFU info-service

Ukraine (U-17) − Romania (U-17) − 4:0. On Wednesday, September 10, Ukraine U-17 team held general rehearsal before the UEFA EURO 2009 (U-17) qualifying. On Kyiv Bannikov stadium Oleksandr Golovko’s boys crashed Romanians in a friendly match.

Noyok starts well
Ukraine side took the domination from the first minutes. Defender Andriy Tsurikov had two clear-cut chances to score while in the goalmouth. But he twice failed to net in after right-wing passes. But their efforts were rewarded on the 15 minute when referee of the game appointed a penalty kick. Oleksandr Noyok went on to realize the strike and opened the scoring. This made the guests put some pressure and push Ukrainians back. Closer to the end of the first half Romania halfback Romario Benzhar was about to bring the equalizer after he headed the ball to Maksym Koval. The latter parried it.

Goal flow in the second half
On the 46 minute the author of the first goal Oleksandr Noyok was close to double the scoreline after a free kick but the ball flew up higher. After that Ukrainians provided several attacks without success. But luck smiled at them on the 52 minute when Shakhtar halfback Oleksandr Karavayev found the pass from the left wing. Later on the ‘blue-yellows’ extended their emphatic advantage with two strikes on the 71 minute. The first one was made by Ruslan Kuryleno, and the second was produced by Vitaliy Ivanko after his powerful shot from the right-wing line. Romania boys were surprisingly perseverant, they kept struggling till the end. A late-gasp attack of Andrey Florchan almost secured his side a consolation goal, but the ball found a crossbar on its way.

Official debut in September
The 2008/09 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round begins in September with 52 sides beginning their quest for seven places in next May's finals in Germany. Among the mini-tournaments, played throughout the autumn, is a Group 13 meeting between holders Spain and England, who were matched in the 2007 final. Two of the teams who competed in last season's finals in Turkey, runners-up France and Scotland, are both in Group 11. The top two in each of the 13 qualifying round sections, plus the two third-placed sides with the best record against the leading pair in their group, will progress to the Elite round, which will be drawn on 4 December and played in the spring of 2009. The winners of the seven Elite round sections will join hosts Germany in the final tournament from 6-18 May.
