On Monday, February 1st, the House of Football hosted a FFU Executive Committee session with members decided to appoint Myron Markevych as Ukraine manager and Yurii Kalytvyntsev as his assistant.
Markevych, who celebrated his 59th birthday on Monday, has coached a number of Ukrainian league clubs along with Russian Premiership side Makhachkala and was most recently employed by Metalist Kharkiv. He led Karpaty Lviv to third place in the Ukrainian championship in 1998.
Markevych succeeds Oleksiy Mikhailichenko, who resigned after Ukraine failed to book a place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa finals following a loss to Greece in the play-offs. Yurii Kalytvyntsev was named as Markevych's assistant. He led Ukraine Under-19 team to gold medals in UEFA European Under-19 championship on home soil in 2009.
