The 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games were held from 24 June to 5 July in Athens, Greece. It gathered near ten thousands participants from 180 countries. The competition took place on the best Greek arenas.
Ukrainian football team (disabled persons and not disabled together) coached by O.Petrusenko and V.Tkachenko didn’t lost any match and in the final game beat Danish team - 6:2. Ukrainians were acting champions after winning the title four years ago.
An international sporting competition, Special Olympics is thriving in more than 180 countries, giving life-changing benefits to more than 3.4 million athletes and offering year-round assistance and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Special Olympics programme has been running in Ukraine since 1994.
