Beach football: last step left
15.05.2008, 18:35 | Yuriy Korzachenko, FFU (from Benidorm)

Ukraine national beach football team beat England 6:0 and got into a quarter final of World Cup-2008 qualifying round. On the 16th of May Ukrainians are to play with Italian team who overcame Belorus.

Confident win of Ukraine
It turned out to be a red-letter day for Ukraine as they beat England 6-0 in their 1/8 final game of the Benidorm showpiece and storm into the next round where they will face the Azzurri to clinch a berth at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2008 in Marseille. Varenytsya and Mozgovyy both scored two goals and were the light points of a very strong playing Ukraine side.

Difficult match for Italians
Italy struggled their way into the quarterfinals by defeating a Belarus side that purely based on performance has been the biggest surprise of the tournament so far. They obliged the Italians to play their best Beach Soccer at the Benidorm showdown to notch their spot amongst the last eight, where they will meet Ukraine. The Italians took the lead up to three times, but the former Soviets managed to pull the game level at every occasion until Palmacci scored the winning goal early in the third period that qualifies the Italians for the next round and keeps them in the running for Marseille.
