 Glory to heroes, holiday to kids! | | 10.05.2008, 15:15 | Kostyantyn Patkevych, FFU |  |  |  | On Saturday, May 10, Ukraine celebrated Day of Football for the sixteenth time. Kyiv Viktor Bannikov stadium became the place to be for the grand fest. Numerous convivial events with lots of football teams and honored guests took place there.
Main weapon − leather ball «I’m very glad that this year’s celebration of Football Day coincided with Victory Day, − FFU President Grigoriy Surkis spoke to the present. − On this occasion I greet all veterans with this glorious date. We owe them that exceptionally football battles are taking place on our fields, and leather ball is the main weapon of our kids».
Care about future above everything «Football Day is first of all holiday for young footballers, as they are our future, − FFU chief noted. − And All the programs Football federation realizes − lesson of football at schools, building new football pitches − are mostly directed on making better conditions for younger generation. Our recent success confirms our football is on the rise. Four next years will be a new test for us. Thirst for victory, passion, devotion to our country will lead all our society to staging EURO 2012 in the best way».
Push for further development In terms of official ceremony of opening a Day of Football vice Prime Minister Ivan Vasyunyk addressed to the present. He highlighted that «football is crucial factor of social metamorphoses in the country, it produces positive effect on education of rising generation through Ukrainian traditions and Olympic spirit». Vice Prime Minister is sure holiday 2008 will make a boost for further development of Ukrainian football.
Further champions In his turn Minister for sports, youth and family Yuriy Pavlenko, speaking to football community, thanked national federation for advancing the game of the million among Ukrainians. Minster expressed hope that there should definitely be someone among the participants of the fest who would make Ukraine famous at World Cup games, EURO competitions and Olympic Games.
Devotion to chosen work President of National Olympic Committee Serhiy Bubka wished all those engaged in football to keep committed to the chosen work and not to lose faith. «This year’s fest will unite more and more all those who are set on our common aim − EURO 2012 hosting».
Balls and uniform as presents At the end of official ceremony FFU President Grigoriy Surkis and coaches of national team, youth team greeted the veterans of World War II, sportsmen famous in past − Mykhailo Baku, Oleh Layevskiy, Oleksandr Schanov. Afterwards all the entries of events were presented with balls, uniform and other valuable goods. |
