Arena of Illichivets, which belongs to the football club of the same name, was far away from European standards before the capital reconstruction in 2001. The stadium got its new face on the turning point of the millenniums when Mariupol club Metalurh (present Illichivets) during several years was at the leading positions in Ukrainian football.
Almost during only one year instead of out-of-date stadium Novator a comfortable modern object was built and now it is up to the requirements of UEFA. Then the stadium was renamed into Illichivets. As a matter of fact, in the season 2004/05 it hosted the matches of local team against Banants Armenia and Austria from Austria in UEFA Cup. It is also necessary to mention that Ukraine U-21 also played its matches on this stadium and last summer the matches of the VII Victor Bannikov’s Memorial also took place there.
