Ukraine lives by football
25.04.2009, 16:45 | FFU inform-service

Kyiv Study-training centre named after the first Football Federation of Ukraine president Victor Bannikov became a centre of celebrating of the Ukrainian Day of football on the 25th of April. Solemnities took place with the presence of FFU president Grigoriy Surkis, National Olympic Committee head Serhiy Bubka, the head of the Committee of Verhovna Rada for family, sport and tourism Pavlo Kostenko and the representatives of Kyiv regional state administration.

Positive atmosphere

The atmosphere was really festive − sunny, spring and optimistic. It was mentioned by Grigoriy Surkis while greeting the participants of the holiday. “We are waiting with optimism for the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee as to the cities, which will get the right to hold EURO 2012, − FFU president said. − The achievements of the last football season let us think this way. During this season there was commissioning a project of the stadium in Dnipropetrovsk and announcement about the ending of building of the arena in Donetsk and ending of reconstruction of the stadium in Kharkiv. There was also an order of FFU for getting the category of ‘Six stars’ within the Charter of mass football and, of course, successes of our leading clubs in UEFA Cup”.

Popular game

“We gathered here to prove once more that Ukrainian football thinks not only about the present time, but it is also anxious about its tomorrow, − Grygoriy Surkis summarized. − We can state that our country lives by football and this kind of sport is really people’s one”. The place of football in the life of Ukrainian society was noted by Serhiy Bubka and Pavlo Kostenko in their speeches. After that there was a rewarding of the best children’s collectives and individual players, who became the winners of the contest of technical skill, organized by the Football Federation of Kyiv.

Without defeated

Kyiv holiday of the Day of football at NTC named after Victor Bannikov was marked by unprecedented match-marathon of the capital teams and the teams of Kyiv region. The teams of children's homes and girlish collectives, the teams of fans and the players with defects of health and so on were competing and changing each other. The separate point of the program was the duel between the team of sport journalists and the team of Kyiv regional state administration. The second ones appeared to be stronger − 1:0, but this day absolutely all participants of the event supposed themselves to be the winners.

Communication as the most valuable treasure

One of the presents for children, their coaches and parents and for the rest guests of the holiday was a live communication with the leaders of Ukrainian football and football veterans. Young footballers received the souvenirs from Oleksandr Bandurko, Borys Voskresenskiy and Volodymyr Troshkyn. Ivan Fedorenko, Semen Altman and Ihor Kochetov answered the questions of mass-media. And Vitaliy Pylypenko in the squad of the team of regional state administration resisted the coaches of Ukraine national team Vadym Yevtushenko and Mykhailo Mykhailov, who strengthened the sport journalists’ team.

Exclusive for Polish journalists

The representatives of Ukrainian and foreign mass-media couldn’t, but use the opportunity to speak to the first persons of Ukrainian football and sport. Thus, Grigoriy Surkis had to arrange an improvised press-conference for the group of Polish journalists − the reporters of TV channels POLSAT and TVN, Polish Radio and Press Agency, newspapers «Gazeta Wyborcza» and «Rzeczpospolita».

While answering the question about the principle of representation of Polish and Ukrainian cities in the final list of EURO 2012 the head of FFU accentuated once again: “I am for the parity, when speaking about the moral-ethic base of our partnership. The tournament will be lasting only a month, and we will be neighbours for many generations”.

“At the same time, − Grigoriy Surkis underlined, − I recommend urgently to refrain from any doubts as to the objectiveness of the UEFA decision in this question. The criteria of the assessment, which are applied to each of the candidate, are called first of all to create the best conditions for the participants and guests of the football holiday. The final summary as to the representation of holding territories will be dependent just to this logic”.
