On April 12, 2010, the Segodnya newspaper published an interview of Euro 2012 minister Borys Kolesnikov who spoke about the tournament preparation. Answering the question on the possibility to reinclude Dnipropetrovsk to the list of host cities, Borys Kolesnikov, among other, claimed:
"No one in the world acts the way as Football Federation of Ukraine did backing the reserve cities in public. This is a big nonsense. They created the problem of domestic competition. What was the reason to give such expectations? It's a humiliation of the residents of Dnepropetrovsk".
Such interpretation of the role of FFU is incorrect. Indeed, and it is widely known that all six cities, both in Ukraine and Poland, competed till the last and believed they would feature among four venues confirmed. The encouragement followed from UEFA experts whose reports based on the comparative tables. So, naturally, each of the candidates made massive PR campaigns bringing in the limelight their achievements and benefits trying to get ahead of competitors.
Football Federation was not influencing upon this process. It was fully controlled by the local authorities in the questions of organization and finances. It is also affirmed by a widely known fact that the leaders of Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk started a dirty informational campaign against FFU and UEFA, after UEFA fixed four Ukrainian cities in May, 2009 and ruling out these two ones.
That is why any accusations as to FFU’s treating cruelly the citizens of Dnipropetrovsk are absurd, groundless and false. FFU is disappointed that high post state officials use doubtful information which distort real events.
